Our WEB Development Process

Throughout our web site development process, we continuously reinforce the importance of carefully planning your web strategy. Whether you’re a large multinational corporation or a small startup company, the importance of the planning stage should never be underestimated. The following is an overview of Fruit Engine’s internal development process, which may vary depending upon the specific needs of our client and the level of client-requested service.

Web Site Planning
The planning phase is the most important, but often overlooked, step of the development process.  It takes time, patience, experience and involves conducting a detailed needs-assessment which consists of the following:

  • General needs overview
  • Graphical design requirements
  • Development of goals and objectives
  • Analysis of the target audience
  • Review of competitor and related sites
  • Review and consideration of site features and functionality
  • Cost/benefit comparisons
  • Hosting requirements
  • Marketing needs analysis
  • Available domain names
  • Text content and image needs
  • Current and future budget determination
  • Site maintenance options

Structure Development
Once the planning stage is complete, the web site’s design and application structure are intricately laid out to ensure that all necessary features and functionality are understood and included.  Failure to completely and accurately develop this stage will almost always result in costly additions, numerous complications, and the inability to deliver the finished project within specified timelines.  Here is a step-by-step overview of the structure development stage:

  • Determine the number of required pages
  • Figure out the amount of required page designs
  • Analyze the site’s navigation flow and page placement
  • Resolve the application flow and page placement
  • Submit to client for approval

Web Design
This stage involves the actual design of your company’s web site, which is also done in stages. This process is a continuation from the planning and structure development phases.

Home page creation
Your home page sets the standard for your company’s image and is the most important page of your site. This stage involves the following processes:

  • Pre-screen drawings and internal consultation
  • On-screen theme and major element creation
  • Navigation, text and image placement
  • Internal and client review
  • Implementation of necessary alterations
  • Final client review
  • Conversion to web format

Sub pages creation
Sub-page design should be consistent with the theme and feel of your home page. These pages are not created until the home page has been carefully reviewed and approved. Here are the steps followed in this stage:

  • Continue theme developed for the home page
  • Add navigation, text, and image
  • Put in application elements
  • Submit for internal and client review
  • Implement necessary alterations
  • Submit to client for approval
  • Convert to web format
  • Add and populate the remaining pages

Application Development
The application design stage proceeds in the same way as the other stages. In this stage, the application is reviewed and determined if it, above all else, performs correctly, consistently, and is easy to use. Here are the processes involved in this stage:

  • Determining the functionality and scope of data involved
  • Laying out the interface and flow of events
  • Creation of client administration areas
  • Development of site user displays, continuing the theme of home page and sub-pages
  • Internal and client review
  • Implementing necessary alterations
  • Submission to client for approval
  • Final population of data

Internal Review and Testing
Although we carefully review and test throughout each phase of the development process, we take the necessary time to do a complete site check prior to the approval and release stage.

Approval and Release
Once we’ve completed our internal review and testing, we ask the client to review all content, text navigation and application functionality, and approve the site before it is uploaded to the Internet.

Follow-up
We will contact you after your site has been online for a few weeks to get your feedback and any comments you may have received from clients and employees.

Fruitengine Web’s staff will occasionally contact you to talk about results, needs, and additional ideas for future development. If you need to discuss anything with us, we are always available by telephone and email to assist you.
